Short answer

This planner helps you decide whether to repeat your current setup, add reps, or test a small resistance adjustment. It cannot measure band tension and it cannot identify an equivalent band from another brand. Use it for one exercise at a time, keeping the band, attachment point, starting length and movement range consistent.

Rep count is useful for tracking the same exercise under similar conditions. It is not a measurement of force: technique, fatigue, movement range, band stretch and attachment position can all change the result.

Decide what to do next session

Answer for one exercise only. The planner is deliberately conservative: it will not suggest an increase unless technique was controlled, you had about two reps in reserve, and the same thing happened twice.

What this planner does and does not calculate

The result follows the rules printed above. They are a conservative way to organise a training log. They have not been validated as a personalised resistance-training programme, and they contain no measurement of force.

The planner does not calculate force in kilograms, pounds or newtons, does not prescribe weekly training volume, and does not establish which product you should buy. A band’s stated resistance is only interpretable when the conditions it was measured under are supplied, and most listings do not supply them.

Questions people ask

Why is there no tension figure?
Because nobody measured your band under your conditions. Stated resistance depends on the stretch the manufacturer used, which most listings do not publish, so any kilogram figure this page produced would be invented. Reps at a fixed setup are the honest currency.
Is two reps in reserve a real measurement?
No. It is a subjective estimate you make about your own set. It is useful for consistency and useless as a precise number, which is why the rule requires it to occur twice before suggesting a change.
What if my band set has colours I do not understand?
Ignore the colour. Test the band in the exercise you plan to use it for, at your starting length, and count controlled reps. That is the only comparison that transfers between brands.
Does adding reps build strength?
Progressive overload builds strength, and adding reps at the same resistance is one way to apply it, up to a point. A meta-analysis of elastic versus conventional resistance training found similar strength gains, which is covered on this site with its limits stated.
